WHITE ON WHITE

The White On White series is composed of 22 art prints created as part of the artist’s Master in Fine Arts thesis at the School of Art and Art History, with a Major in Design and a Minor in Photography, at the University of Iowa.

Cris’ design style is always minimalistic and monochromatic, which is her signature. After months of research while studying art history and experimenting with several different techniques while in art school, the White On White series was created starting with a collection of objects that represent a generation and invoke nostalgic memories. The objects were painted and photographed against a white background, relying on the shadows and shapes of the objects, making it subtle yet so interesting. Influenced by Andy Warhol, Heidi Cody, Haim Steinback, Conrad Bakker, Chris Jordan, and Tony Cragg, new insights are synthesized from them all, based on pop culture, consumerism, and objectification.

Last year one of Cris’ pieces – “The Typewriter” – won the Minted and West Elm Art Challenge and became a part of Minted’s Wall Art Print selection under Limited Edition Art. Minted is a design marketplace that connects consumers to artists worldwide. “The Typewriter” has sold more than 150 copies as a limited edition. In August 2017, two other pieces of the White On White series – “The Phone” and “The Roller Skates” – were part of a pop-up exhibition in Miami, as part of the Follow Your Passion Tour, in which Minted Founder and CEO Mariam Naficy and the Minted team traveled from California to Miami to showcase the varied works of Minted artists . The pop-up art gallery event was hosted by Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC) in Wynwood Art District, Miami. Both pieces will also soon be featured in Tampa, Florida, in Fall 2017.

In September 2017, nearly 600 Target stores and Target.com began carrying “The Typewriter” as a wall tapestry. This unique piece was selected among thousands to be part of Minted Limited Edition home décor for Target.
